After leaving the convention conference room in the hub of the city, where the votes had been counted and the winner declared, Dion climbed into a car waiting for him for the short drive over to Lefteris House. As the chauffer opened the door for him, he stood out of the car, turned around and waived at well wishers and the press before waking over to a microphone. He let a jubilant smile escape his usually calm composure as people cheered.
"Friends and Neighbours,
the Members of the Commonwealth have asked me to form a Government in their name and I have accepted."
Cheers and screams erupted from the crowd and he waited for them to die down a little before continuing.
"I want to pay tribute to my opponent, who recieved the votes of a very large portion of our Commonwealth Members. In order to truly represent our whole Membership, I need to recognise that and involve my opponent in the conversations and the decisions that will be happening over the coming months. Alone I may represent a majority, but together we can represent everyone.
I campaigned on a manifesto built around the principles of solidarity, co-operation, transparency and compromise. It will be upon those same values that, together, you and I, will build this Commonwealth. An international and interregional organisation that strengthens regions' sovereignty instead of taking it from them, that shares their culture rather than ignores it, and which recognises that every region and every nation has something to contribute to something bigger and better than we are alone.
We have a lot of work ahead of us and there will be difficult times ahead when we need to make crucial decisions, when we need to really focus and srutinise our own actions, but our victory has already been won here today. Take it, it's yours!"
Tired from yesterdays campaigning and the overnight count, Dion smiled and waved again at the crowd before climbing the steps of the palace. Though dawn was creeping in, fireworks began to light up the sky. The door was opened for Dion and he went inside, leaving his supporters to revel in the street. He was going to straight to bed.
