The Houses
Each House is headed by a Patrician or 'House Leader'. The Head of the House is a 'patron' of lower ranked 'clients' and these clients, in turn, can be patrons of even lower ranking clients.
Each House has a House Prestige score, equal to the Prestige of all it's members. The House with the Highest Prestige is considered the leading House.
Prestige
Your prestige is equal to your House Points and the House Points of your clients.
House Points
You gain House Points through various means:
1 point per forum post - added monthly
5 points per day for being an ambassador - added monthly
10 points per day for being Commonwealth Justice - added monthly
15 points per day for being Commonwealth Chancellor - added monthly
20 points per day for being Head of the Commonwealth - added monthly
200 points for donating 1000 telegrams to your region's recruitment effort.
There will also be other opportunities to earn House Points on an ad hoc basis.
Each House Leader has 1000 House Points per month to give away as they see fit.
Clients
You may be patron to a maximum of three clients. You cannot stop someone being your client or choose your own client, except at the House Cycle.
Rising and Falling in the House
If you gain more prestige than your patron, your roles will be reversed at the next 'House Cycle' and your patron will become your client, lower in rank than you while you will climb up the ladder. The only exception to this is if your Patron is the Patrician.
If you are the client of the Patrician there are additional rules to overthrow him. You must have served as full term (four months) as Consul. Only then will you be accepted by the House as the new Patrician. 'House Leaders' do not have to be consuls and can be overthrown by someone whom has not served a full term as Consul. However, they will not receive the formal rank of Patrician.
House Cycles
A House Cycle takes place every two months. At the House Cycle, all prestige is checked and adjustments to the rankings made. Players whose nations have CTE'd will be removed from the House. In the first fortnight after the Cycle, people can change their patron. At this stage, and only at this stage, you can choose who you wish to be your patron and patrons can pick between applicant clients if they have too many applicants.
Joining a House and getting a Patron
You may join any of the current Houses you choose. Your Patron will be assigned based on a random selection of available Patrons. You can only change your Patron after the next House Cycle. Although You can change your Patron at the Cycle, you cannot change your House. The only way to change House is to found a new one, or to be dragged to a new one by a higher ranking patron.
Joining the most Prestigious House is not always going to be the best idea. You are more likely to succeed at gaining prestige in a House where you can develop working, co-operative relationships with people, so it is a good idea to pick a House with people you know in it. Further more, it will be easier to rise to the top of the less prestigious Houses than the most prestigious House.
Forming a new House
If you earn enough prestige you can break away from your house, forming a new one - taking your clients, and their clients, with you. Each time a new House is formed, it costs an extra 10,000 prestige for someone else to form a house in the future.
Destroying a House
In rare circumstances a House can be destroyed. This will happen if the House no longer has any members, if the only member of the House is the Patrician at the House Cycle (in which case the Patrician must join another House as a client), or if two Houses are somehow united and the Patrician decides to destroy one of them. A destroyed House can never be restored.
Uniting Houses
Two Houses can be united through marriage of the Patricians of the two Houses, or by agreement of the Patricians. In either case, the Patrician with the Highest personal Prestige will become the Patrician of the newly united Houses. The Spouse of a Patrician has all the styles, honours and titles of Patrician, even though not 'the' Patrician.
The Most Prestigious House
The goal of the House is to become the prestigious and the Patricians will have difficulty keeping inner-House intrigue under control in order for the good of the House - particularly as being the most prestigious house will only directly affect the Patrician. In the future there will be a special reward given to the Patrician of the most prestigious House - watch this space.
Married Couples
Married Couples are treated as one person for the purpose of House Rules. They share House Points and Clients. Should the couple divorce they will need to agree how to split the House Points they have accrued since being married, or get a court judgement to decide for them.
Inheritance
If a person's nation CTE's their House points will be kept on hold for the next two House Cycles, at which point their House Points will be evenly distributed among their clients. If the person has no clients, their house points will go to the Head of the House.
House Rules
Your House Patrician may set House Rules. These could be anything relating to the House, it's activities or the expectations of it's members. For example, a House may forbid marriage without the consent of the Patrician, or may forbid marrying within/outside the House. A House may set eligibility requirements for Membership, such as deciding if they accept non-commonwealth members or only Members from a certain region. House Rules will be reviewed by the forum moderators to ensure they don't go beyond what is reasonable and you can query this with the moderators if you feel House Rules go too far.
