As a member of the Commonwealth or even a friend from abroad, you can join one of the Houses of the Commonwealth. To do so, simply state which house you wish to join here. There is currently only one house: The House of Atlas. In the future, persons with enough Prestige will have the option of breaking away from their House and creating a new one. Currently you need 10,000 prestige for this. Which House should you choose? Choose a House with people you know in it. Each House will grow in prestige as they get larger and carry out activities which attract House Points. The House has the total prestige of all it's members. By increasing your prestige, you can move up the ranks of your House, until you either have enough to break away and form your own house, or even topple the Head of the house you are in. The Head of the House is called the Patrician and he is the patron of his clients, whom in turn can be the patrons of their own clients, and so on. In order to join a House, just reply to this topic with the House you want to join. You will be assigned a patron at random. See this thread for a more in-depth look at how the Houses work and House Rules: nscommonwealth.proboards.com/thread/112/houses-work-rules

wait hold up why is it 10,000 prestige for to make a faction Yeah, basically to keep the number of houses manageable. The idea is that after the second house is created the amount needed for the third goes up.

Just an idea here. At the moment, you get all the prestige of your all your 'descendants'. Why not change your personal prestige to 'house points' and your prestige only your house points and the house points of your direct clients (Not their clients as well). This way, instead of your patron always having more prestige than you, you could actually get more prestige than your patron.
By becoming more prestigious than your patron, the role of client and patron could be reversed. So it's more intriguing. You can topple your patron by getting more prestige than them. Eventually perhaps even toppling the head of the house.
More interesting I think. More incentive to develop relationships with high achieving clients to add their house points to your prestige. People can even work together to topple a high ranking patron.
Perhaps you can even change your patrons...
And we should call the Head of the Houses, patricians. Giving them special status in the commonwealth - or perhaps a salary.
Now people aren't just striving to get enough prestige to form their own house, but have the choice between forming their own new house or seizing the house they are already in.
Through marriages, people could even end up seizing other houses, uniting them or destroying them.
