"When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die!"
Make your character and try to win the Throne of Atlas. Whether you sit on the throne itself, or emerge as a power behind it... it is yours for the taking.
Warning
This RP will sometimes include extreme violence, sexual themes and traumatic events. It is about power struggles and is set in a time and a place where people can do extremely nasty things to one another, including upon people who may not deserve it. That being said, do not RP the abuse of children, animals or sexual violence.
Background
House Atlas has sat on the throne for thousands of years, but over the last few generations, the house has dwindled to the point where Kostakis Atlas, King of Atlantis, is the last survivor of the House. The King has decided to abdicate the throne and retire to a monastery, triggering a bloody power struggle that will last a generation.
Make your Character
You are a courtier in the City of Atlas. Choose your story and make your character.
When creating your character, you will be able to choose how many points you have for each score, up to 10. The higher your starting scores the better your chances in the game. However, for every point you give yourself, the age of your character increases by two years from a default age of 8 years old (so the minimum starting age is 16). The older your character, the more likely he or she is to develop fatal illnesses.

Game Rules
Tech: The RP is primarily Bronze Age Tech, but there will be instances where it is appropriate for your character to be more or less advanced than this so this wont be strictly enforced. Various sub-plots will no doubt spring up between players and you can use whatever tech you like for these (even future if that's your thing) by agreement of the players involved, but anything that affects the main plot has to be at or near bronze tech.
Magic: No doubt some people will want magic in the game. You cannot use magic in the RP, but you can allude to it, keeping the question of whether magic really exists ambiguous. Whether or not magic actually exists, it is outlawed in the Kingdom of Atlantis so be very careful how you RP magic related themes or your character could find himself with an appointment with the executioner.
Changing Your Character: There are instances where killing off your character could give you extra power in the game. To avoid this, you cannot change your character unilaterally. In usual circumstances your character can only die in the following circumstances: illness, having a score at 0 or 20, dying in a battle or duel, being executed/banished for a crime, being assassinated or as a result of a palace coup.
The Scoring System
There are four main scores that will shape your character: Power, Faith, Popularity and Wealth. Each of these range from 0 to 20. Scores are a double-edged sword. If any of your scores drop to 0 or reach 20, one of the factions will try to get rid of you. Each time you act in the RP, some of your scores will increase or reduce.
There is also a hidden stat called 'Combat Ability' which is shaped by some encounters. The higher your combat skill, the more chance you have of survival if you have to fight, go into battle or duel.
Another hidden score is the 'Force Score'. This indicates the strength of the Royal Armies and only directly affects the character sitting on the throne, though could have indirect consequences for other characters.
A final hidden score is the 'RP Bonus', unlike the other scores, you keep this when your character dies.
The Factions
There are four factions that will try to influence you: the Lords, the Priests, the People and the Atlas Bank.
The Lords support depends on your power scores. If your power gets too low (0) they may try to get rid of you in order to further their aims. If your power gets too high (20) they will become jealous and rally together to kill you off.
The Priests support depends on your faith score. If it gets too low (0) they will try to make an example of your ungodly ways, if it gets too high (20) they may try to take advantage of your faith in order to advance their own ends.
The People's support depends on your popularity score. If it gets too low (0) they will be enraged by your actions and will try to lynch you, if it gets too high (20), they will get lofty ideas and try to use you as a pawn to revolutionise the Kingdom.
The Bank's support depends on your wealth score. If it gets too low (0) they will pay your own guards to kill you, if it gets too high (20) they will fear their influence waning and will assassinate you.
Some actions you carry out can give you immunity to any of the eight ways of being killed above. But tread carefully, as the immunity usually depends on the support of an NPC.
The King or Queen
The effects of the scoring system and the factions are amplified for the King, as allowing any score to get too high or low will mean they could be overthrown.
There are three symbols of the King or Queens power: The Throne, The Crown and The Trident. While all of these make up the Office of Monarch, it is possible that they could be split between different rival characters, as they are each awarded seperately.
The Throne is given by the courtiers, who will always give it to the rightful heir of the last monarch. If no such heir exists, they will give it to one of themelves. By default, this will be the character with the highest scores (unless there is a compelling RP reason to give it to someone else).
The Crown is given by the High-Priest at the Coronation. Upon taking the throne, the Minister will guide you into securing your place on the throne. Once all the matters that need attending to have been satisfied, he will offer to arrange a coronation. As the High-Priest could theoretically withold the Crown, it is important to keep him on your side before your coronation.
The Trident is granted by the Heads of State of the various nations of Atlantis at the next Atlantiad, a meeting of the nations every five or six months. By being granted the Trident, you will not just be the Monarch in the RP world, but will also be given executive control over the Region of Atlantis.
Palace Coups
It is possible for the Player Characters to form a Palace Coup, giving any of their number the throne. In order for a palace coup to be triggered, it has to be supported by a number of player characters equal to the square root of the the total active players (activity is defined as having posted in the RP in the previous month). The Palace Coup will not automatially be successful, it will need to be RP'd carefully.
Birth and Death
It is possible for a female character to become pregnant and give birth, creating a new character, creating an heir. If either the mother or father of the new character dies, they can then take control of that character. Heirs are generally good as they inherit your titles, offices and influence, whereas if you have to form a new character from scratch, you will lose them all. If an heir is born out of wedlock, they will not inherit titles and offices. However, characters born out of wedlock automatically get a special trait giving them an edge to counter their lack of standing.
Battles and Duels
Your character can be killed or wounded in a battle or duel. Wounding works similar to illnesses but wont always start as a minor wound.
Your success in a fight will be determined as follows:
Combat Ability * RP Bonus * Luck - Age Modifier
Age Modifier is a value depending on your age. If you are 35 it is 0. for every year below or over the age of 35, the Age Modifier inceases by 1.
Luck is a random number between -20% to +20% of your combat ability.
The winner will be the character with the highest score.
If you lose, you have a one in six chance of any of the following outcomes: No harm, Minor Wound, Moderate Wound, Major Wound, Deathbed, Death.
If you win you have a 60% chance of no harm and a 10% chance each of Minor Wound, Moderate Wound, Major Wound, Deathbed.
National Interests
A well as your characters, your nations can also influence the politics of Atlantis.
If your character has power of at least 11 and certain actions are carried out (either by you or someone else) you will get the opportunity to have your nation land an army in the Kingdom of Atlantis. Whether or not that army is there to rebel against the Crown, defend the Crown or protect your interests in the Kingdom is up to you.
If your faith is at least 11, you may trigger the opportunity to found a shrine in the City which later could grow into a temple.
If your popularity is at least 11, you may get the oportunity to trigger unrest in Atlantis.
If your wealth is at least 11, you may be called on to make a loan to the Kingdom, giving you considerable influence.
If your nation lands an army in Atlantis it will get a force score, but avoid battles to begin with as it will take time to fully land your troops and to get them situated. Your force score is capped at 2,000 per day it has been in the Kingdom - maxing out at up to 60,000 (the full strength of the Royal Army) after 30 days. Your maximum force score will depend on - the size of your nation, your military budget, your scores, any RP events that alter it.
Battles
In determining the winner of a battle the following scores are used:
((Force * All Scores)/80)* Luck*(Combat Ability/10)*RP Bonus
Each army has a force score of up to 60,000.
Luck is a random number between -20% and +20% of your Force Score
Combat Ability is the combined combat score of all characters fighting in the army.
The winner of the battle is the army with the highest score. Draws should be rare.
Make your character and try to win the Throne of Atlas. Whether you sit on the throne itself, or emerge as a power behind it... it is yours for the taking.
